To celebrate Bernadette’s 5th birthday, we invite you to buy a cup of virtual lemonade with a donation to The Foresight Fund for Retinoblastoma Research. Five is a significant milestone for a kid with retinoblastoma (RB), as new RB tumors are less likely after this age.
There is much work to be done in understanding the genetics of RB and in identifying innovative treatments with less toxicity and even better outcomes. For Bernadette’s 5th birthday, we are launching The Foresight Fund for Retinoblastoma Research, in partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and other families impacted by RB.
How you can help:
- Become a founding contributor with a donation of any size. (Seriously—every cup and dollar counts!)
- Consider hosting your own lemonade stand or fundraiser for The Foresight Fund for Retinoblastoma Research.
- If you’re local to Chicago, stop by and buy a real cup of lemonade on August 14 from 12pm - 2pm. Retro on Roscoe will be happening just down the street, so it’s a great time to be in the neighborhood!
How your contributions are used:
- $50 funds one hour of research.
- $500 funds more than one day of research.
- $2,500 funds more than a week of research.
- $10,000 funds more than one month of research.
What is The Foresight Fund for Retinoblastoma Research?
The fund is a collaboration with families impacted by RB, most who, like us, have experienced or will experience cancer over generations. Our goal is to fund our first research grant by the end of 2023 to spark innovation for the next generation of kids with RB.
We believe this spark—from those of us who love a kid impacted by RB—can ignite progress beyond this one type of cancer. RB, while rare, plays an important role in the history of cancer research and, we believe, the future of treatment. For example, research on RB led to the discovery of the first tumor suppressor gene, which is related to many other cancers, including some types of lung cancers, breast cancers, and glioblastoma.
Why is this a lemonade stand?
This fundraiser is a virtual and in-real-life lemonade stand in the spirit of Alex, the young girl who sparked millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research by holding a lemonade stand in her yard. Her legacy lives on in Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, which has raised over $250 million for pediatric cancer research and funded over 1,000 research projects.
