Hi, my name is Felicia and I am 10 years old. I was diagnosed with Stage 5 Wilms tumor in Dec. of 2007. I fought long and hard and in Aug. of 2008 we heard the glorious words every family longs for: "Cancer Free! I am strong and determined to live a long, healthy, happy life with my Mom, Dad, sister Angelina and twin brother, Dean! Visit my story on www.caringbridge.org./visit/felicia. One of the first words the doctors tell you, is your child has cancer,it affects the whole family and your live will never be the same. I have found this all to be so true but not all in a bad way. Cancer is a world of its own,it is scarey and sometimes very loney but I have found cancer to change me in ways I never would image. It is the people that you met during you journey. I have found that people who have been touched by cancer amazing. The Scott's are special to my family first for raising such wonderful children and for make our journey with cancer easlier with all their hard work. Another amazing family that I met in CHOP in the beginning of our journey was Jen Burke she was there with her little daughter Sara. We would sit in our hospital room scared and lonely and watch this little girl trying to walk around the halls, Jen always looking so up beat and together. She made sure to make us comfortable and gave us the ins and outs of the hospital. The beginning of our journey was December 10th 2007 so we spent the holidays in CHOP and rang in the new year with our friends in the hallways outside Sara Burkes room. I remember Jen toasting in 2008 and being so happy the Sara treatment would be done and I was ringing in 2009 scare what 2008 might bring to us. Jen continue to be a big part of my journey I found my self calling her when I needed some words of wisdom and she always had the right words to tell me. Sara had won the fight she was cancer free. Then on Mother's Day I recieved a call from a friend telling me Sara's cancer was back and she probably would not make it through the night. Sara earned her wings on May 12th 2008 a brave strong little girl joined Alex in heaven. Our lemonaide stands will be in memory of Sara Burke a spirit that will live on forever. I picked Mother Day weekend because to be a mother is the best gift anyone could recieve and keeping Sara memories alive I feel are very important to Jen. Just like Alex said WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS MAKE LEMONADE !
