I am a physical education teacher and coach for the lower and middle schools at the Davis Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Though I have been an educator for 16 years, this is my first year at Davis. As the new school year began in August, I was warmly greeted by almost 600 students, and I immediately felt at home in my new environment. I have made connections with so many of my previous students and their families, and this year hasn't been any different. On Friday, April 18th, we unexpectedly lost one of our Davis family members to brain cancer. Jared Forman was one of the most athletic, energetic first graders I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Since his passing, Jared has been in my thoughts often and I wanted to do something to make a difference in his honor. Alex's Lemonade Stand is a wonderful organization that funds research for childhood cancer and nursing grants that improve the quality of life for children with cancer. To date, they have raised over 75 million dollars for research and have funded 375 research projects towards the goal of putting an end to childhood cancer. In November of 2014, I am running the New York City marathon as part of Team Lemon. Please help me reach my goal of $200 per mile to go towards Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Jared Forman.
