We, Shandree and Tiffany, decided to start running in 2007. The race that motivated us to consider such a thing was the Disneyland Half Marathon. The idea of running through one of our favorite places in this world was enough to get us moving in a way we had never imagined before, unless we were being chased by vicious animals. We learned so much about ourselves through the training and actual race. It is amazing how challenging and emotionally charged a distance race can be even while running through the Happiest Place On Earth. At the finish line, even through the “trials”, we had become runners.
Labor Day weekend 2014, exactly 7 years after that first race, we will participate in another runDisney event. This time it is a 10k and this time our team has expanded to include the newest member of our family, Miguel. Of all the events we have run, this will be our first for charity, representing Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation running as members of Team Lemon.
Research for childhood cancer cures and treatments is consistently underfunded. ALSF's mission is “to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures. To encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.” It is our hope and motivating thought that we too could make a difference for a child battling cancer.
We are incredibly blessed and humbled to be running in honor of Taylor Payne. She is a 9 year old girl who began her cancer battle in March 2013. At this point in her treatment, her prognosis is looking good and yet her fight is far from over. Her family has so generously allowed us to share her story with all of you in hopes of spreading the word about childhood cancer.
