Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS) is a rare genetic disorder. For certain types of BWS, up to 25% of children will develop cancer, most commonly liver and kidney cancer. We are participating in Alex's Million Mile to help move us closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer. Thank you for your support!

Funds from the Team BWS will support the following:

• BWS Conference in 2021 – Every two years, we hold a multidisciplinary conference to educate families and healthcare providers about BWS. Join us at our next BWS conference July 24-25, 2021 virtually! Click here to register
• New research projects – At our most recent BWS Conference in July 2019, patients and families helped us select our next research project: studying behavior and development in children with BWS. • BWS Educational Material – Educational material can be found on our BWS Educational Website and includes BWS information sheets discussing the diagnosis, genetic causes, and management of BWS and the BWS educational coloring book. These educational materials are available in multiple languages.
• BWS Registry – This registry includes hundreds of families from across the US and around the world. In addition to collecting information about BWS for specific research projects to improve care for children with BWS, we have connected families with local specialists and with nearby families for support. • Equipment – During this global pandemic, we have been able to supply our entire BWS research team with the equipment required (i.e. laptops) to continue our BWS research efforts from home.
• Research supplies – These supplies include laboratory equipment used to help us study the underlying causes of BWS and how that leads to overgrowth and tumor development.
• Other genetic disorders including WAGR Syndrome – Our latest research project analyzes the largest cohort of patients with WAGR syndrome with the goal of creating a better understanding of the clinical characterizations and symptoms of WAGR syndrome. Ultimately, this work will guide more tailored recommendations for how to care for patients with WAGR syndrome.
