I'm joining with Team Lemon to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation move one step closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer! I will be using my hobby of running to raise awareness for childhood cancer and to raise money for such an incredible cause. The money you donate will pay for research to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Alex's Lemonade Stand is unique in that they hand-select doctors and teams to receive grants they can use to study & find cures for childhood cancer.
So you may be asking, why childhood cancer? Out of all the noble causes in the world, why this? And why this organization? On November 14, 2017, my best friend and her husband welcomed a beautiful little boy named Wyatt Sargent. When Wyatt was four weeks old, he was brought to Maine Medical Center when his parents noticed he was no longer able to move his upper extremities. He was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT). Since then, Wyatt has undergone surgery to remove the initial tumor on his neck, which has since grown back and has also been through several rounds of chemotherapy. Thankfully, the tumors appear to be responding to chemotherapy but Wyatt still has a long road ahead of him.
It's organizations like Alex's Lemonade Stand that make funding for research for these cancers possible. They also have several programs directly for families like the Sargents. Their SuperSib program is "dedicated to comforting, encouraging, and empowering siblings during their family’s battle against childhood cancer, so these children and teens can face the future with courage and hope." They also have their "travel for care" program which helps aide the financial burdeon of traveling for care just to name a few.
My fundraising goal is currently at $650 which will cover my fundraising responsibility to run my first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, in honor of Wyatt Sargent, and then some. Please take a moment to look at this page, the Alex's Lemonade Stand website and join the Super Wy's Army facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/169965703611014/ ). I appreciate the time you're taking to look into this and I thank you for any donation you are able to make.
