Dee is 14 and enjoys watching football and playing basketball - his favorite team is the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is also a great big brother to four siblings. Dee was first diagnosed with leukemia at the age of seven. He had been sick on and off since he was five, but doctors assured his mother he was ok. He then lost the ability to walk and was given a diagnosis which turned out to be incorrect. Finally, he was referred to a hospital in Charlotte where he was diagnosed with cancer.

Dee was hospitalized and treated with chemo, radiation, many medications and a bone marrow transplant. One of his sisters, Iyana, was a perfect match for his bone marrow and served as a donor. The transplant went very well. Although Dee now has lung issues, he is in remission.

Dee is about to enter his first year of high school and his mother prays he does well, goes to college and has much success in life – and remains cancer-free.

Dee’s mother’s advice for other families affected by childhood cancer is that it, “can be beat. No matter what, there will be some sad times or times you may cry but you can make it through.”

Quote: “It can be done. Just move forward.”
