2008 Potter Cup
|
On Friday, January 25, 2008, rival middle schools Haverford and Paxon Hollow came together again to raise more than $28,000 to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) at their 5th annual Potter Cup competition. Students and teachers alike participated in a pep rally before watching contests between the wrestling teams and boys' and girls' basketball teams.
Haverford came away from all three contests victorious, and returned the Potter Cup to their school. More than 1,500 people attended the event at Haverford High School which also included a magic show, food, games, prizes and of course a lemonade stand. Special guest speakers included Jay and Liz Scott, Alex’s parents; Dr. Naomi Balamuth, a researcher at Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia (CHOP) whose research is funded by this event; and St. Joseph University Women’s basketball coach Cindy Griffen. In a show of solidarity with cancer patients, approximately 50 Paxon Hollow students, including one girl, shaved their heads the night before.
Since its inception, the Potter Cup has raised more than $115,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Special thanks goes to everyone at Paxon Hollow and Haverford who were involved in planning this event and making it such a success!
